What Are The TPD Rules For Nicotine Base UK?

The TPD (Tobacco Products Directive) is the rules and regulations for vaping that were introduced in 2016. These rules govern what products can be sold. It also sets out the guideline for product testing and what they can contain.

• Any container that contains nicotine (vape juice or nicotine shot) can be a maximum of 10ml in size.
• The highest strength of nicotine available is 20mg/ml.

The TPD regulation was created to stop people handling potentially dangerous substances.

Raw nicotine is highly concentrated and can cause issues if handled incorrectly. This also protects pets and children that may get hold of these nicotine products. It would take 3.6 times more 20mg nicotine to cause health issues if ingested (compared to 72mg nicotine).

This does mean 72mg nicotine UK is not legal. This cannot be sold to non-business customers as it is over the TPD permitted 20mg/ml.

You can also find more complex single favour DIY concentrates. This allows you to create your own flavour from scratch.
• Propylene Glycol is a low viscosity liquid. This is used to thin the final mix and make it easier for your coils to absorb. Propylene Glycol is not always used in E Liquids. For high VG mixes, the PG content can come from the flavouring.
• Vegetable Glycerin is the largest part of any E Liquid product. The job of Vegetable Glycerin is to aid with vapour production. The higher content, the more vapour produced. E liquid can be created using only VG and vape flavourings.
• The final part of E Liquid is nicotine shots, these are used to add the nicotine content.

What Are Nicotine Shots?

Nicotine shots are 10ml bottles that contain a high nicotine strength.

Due to the TPD regulations, a grey area was created with shortfill E Liquids. A bottle of juice is filled short of its capacity. This allows you to add a high strength nicotine shot to create your preferred nicotine strength.

• For each 50ml shortfill E Liquid, 1 nicotine shot can be added to make the final juice 3mg.
• For each 100ml shortfill E Liquid, 2 nicotine shots can be added to make the final juice 3mg.

More nicotine shots can be added if you prefer a higher strength. This may dilute the flavour in premixed vape juices. If you are making your own vape juice, simply add less premixed base.
